Conflict will arise among God’s people. Matthew 18 makes it clear that Jesus demands that His people work to resolve conflict between each other. We often cite verse 20 as an encouragement to worship together. It reads: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” While this is a true statement about those times when God’s people gather together to worship, the context of the chapter makes it clear that when two or three people gather together to resolve conflicts between them, Jesus is in their midst. The final parable about the Unmerciful Servant stresses the importance of this truth for us.
