In Genesis 18:14, the Lord promised Abraham and Sarah a son asking: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Abraham believed but Sarah had her doubts.
2,000 years later the angel Gabriel came to Mary, a virgin, to inform her that she would carry the Son of God, Himself, and that her aged relative Elizabeth was already 6-months pregnant. He concluded with the statement: “For nothing is impossible with God.”
As Luke opens his gospel account he immediately confronts our own sense of reality which begs the question: “Do you believe?”
The challenge to believe God is not new; but, it has always been personal.
It is a decision I must make
It is a choice I must consider.
Zechariah did not believe (Luke 1:20) and he was rendered deaf and mute for 9 months.
Mary did believe (Luke 1:45) and she was blessed.
Almost 2,000 years later and we all come to our own Abraham and Sarah moment, our Zechariah challenge and our Mary opportunity.
Can’t decide just yet?
We’re just getting started.
